Job Description
Summary: Keytronic is a team-based and supportive environment that encourages growth through various opportunities. The Mechanical Engineer Intern will assist Mechanical Engineers in designing products and production fixtures, providing technical support on new product development, and fabricating fixtures and prototypes in a machine shop setting.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with design and redesign product components under guidance of design engineers
- Design and fabricate production fixtures for manufacturing and test engineering
- Perform and check routine calculations, specify equipment, and solve problems of low to moderate engineering complexity
- Create and update documentation which defines products, including drawings, specifications, BOMs, and CAD databases
- Adhere to industry codes and standards as well as department practices and procedures
- Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Assist in the design, fabrication, and assembly of models and prototypes
- Obtain quotes for non-production parts
- Verify product design requirements by way of testing and documenting results in a coherent manner
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related degree, preference given to Juniors and Seniors
- Ability to operate a computer and peripheral equipment
- Introductory experience with one or more CAD packages
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with managers, co-workers, and vendors
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical publications, technical procedures, or other related documents
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with FEA or CAM software
- Proficiency with one or more CAD packages and experience with advanced modeling techniques
- Experience with product component design including plastics, sheet metal, and machined parts
- High aptitude for research and problem solving
- Understanding of mechanical reasoning, physics, electronics, metalworking, and plastics
- Ability to use milling machine, drill press, sanders, saws, oscilloscope, soldering iron, and other shop or lab equipment
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical interference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
