The Mechanical Engineer Intern will assist Mechanical Engineers in designing products and production fixtures, providing technical support on new product development, and fabricating fixtures and prototypes in a machine shop setting. Responsibilities: - Assist with design and redesign product components under guidance of design engineers - Design and fabricate production fixtures for manufacturing and test engineering - Perform and check routine calculations, specify equipment, and solve problems of low to moderate engineering complexity - Create and update documentation which defines products, including drawings, specifications, BOMs, and CAD databases - Adhere to industry codes and standards as well as department practices and procedures - Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines - Assist in the design, fabrication, and assembly of models and prototypes - Obtain quotes for non-production parts - Verify product design requirements by way of testing and documenting results in a coherent manner Required Qualifications: - Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related degree, preference given to Juniors and Seniors - Ability to operate a computer and peripheral equipment - Introductory experience with one or more CAD packages - Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with managers, co-workers, and vendors - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical publications, technical procedures, or other related documents - Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with FEA or CAM software - Proficiency with one or more CAD packages and experience with advanced modeling techniques - Experience with product component design including plastics, sheet metal, and machined parts - High aptitude for research and problem solving - Understanding of mechanical reasoning, physics, electronics, metalworking, and plastics - Ability to use milling machine, drill press, sanders, saws, oscilloscope, soldering iron, and other shop or lab equipment - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical interference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry - Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables Required Skills: Mechanical Engineering, CAD software Important Skills: FEA software, CAM software, Product design Nice-to-Have Skills: Mathematical concepts, Communication skills, Problem solving Benefits: Opportunities for growth, Seminars, Certifications, On-the-job training, Career advancement
