Job Description
A well-established organisation is seeking an experienced claims professional to lead and strengthen its internal claims function.
This is a senior leadership position focused on team development, complex-claim oversight, process improvement, and performance management. It is not primarily an individual caseload role.
The successful candidate will assess the current claims function, establish greater consistency across its processes, and improve the quality of reporting, controls, and operational outcomes. The role works closely with operational leaders and internal support teams, as well as insurers, administrators, legal advisers, and other external partners.
Candidates in the St. Louis area are preferred. Strong applicants elsewhere in the United States will also be considered, provided they are able to travel periodically.
Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of claims professionals
Provide direction on complex, high-value, litigated, and multi-state claims
Establish effective strategies for claims from notification through resolution
Review current practices and implement improved procedures, controls, and service standards
Introduce meaningful performance measures and strengthen accountability
Work with operational, legal, safety, and people teams on investigations and resolution strategies
Coordinate effectively with carriers, administrators, counsel, and other external claims partners
Review reserves, claims activity, loss patterns, and developing areas of exposure
Improve the accuracy, consistency, and usefulness of claims reporting
Maintain compliance with applicable legal, contractual, regulatory, and insurance obligations
Support the effective use of claims technology, information systems, and data
Improve incident-notification and claims-handling practices throughout the organisation
Lead departmental projects and contribute to wider operational improvements
A relevant college degree
At least 10 years of progressive claims management experience
Previous responsibility for leading, mentoring, or developing a claims team
Claims experience gained within a complex, multi-site, operationally intensive environment with significant casualty exposure
Experience across workers’ compensation, general liability, automobile, and property matters
Strong knowledge of insurance coverage, claims administration, litigation, reserves, and resolution strategy
Experience overseeing complex, high-exposure, and multi-jurisdictional claims
Ability to manage a substantial claims portfolio using structured processes and measurable performance standards
A demonstrated record of improving claims procedures, controls, reporting, or operational performance
Strong analytical, negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Confidence working with senior leaders, operational teams, legal advisers, and insurance partners
High levels of integrity, judgment, and discretion
Willingness to travel periodically within the United States
Preferred Experience
Familiarity with complex insurance program structures and contractual risk allocation
Experience using claims or risk-management information systems
Confidence working with claims data, reporting, and analytics
Experience within a geographically dispersed organisation
A relevant claims, insurance, or risk-management designation
Base salary of $140,000–$150,000, depending on experience
