R&D Solution Owner – Hull Skating Solutions (HSS)
Location: Sandefjord

Hull Skating Solutions (HSS) is one of Jotun’s most innovative and fast evolving solution areas, combining advanced robotics, digital capabilities, coatings expertise, and service delivery to enable more sustainable vessel performance. We are now looking for an R&D Solution Owner – HSS to take ownership of the technical development and lifecycle of the HSS robotics solution and ensure its continued evolution, robustness, and value creation.
This is a highly cross functional role, operating at the intersection of technology development, operations, and commercialization, and involving close collaboration with key external technical partners. You will be part of a highly qualified research organization and play a central role in shaping the future of a globally deployed solution.
Solution management
Own and manage Jotun’s technical needs related to the HSS robotics solution, ensuring protection, governance, and strategic use
Act as Jotun’s main technical partner interface towards external partners, contributing to product, solution, and application development
Establish, maintain, and actively drive a technical roadmap for the HSS solution, including prioritization of improvements, testing, and maintenance
Partner closely with marketing and product stakeholders to support product and solution strategy development
Define, structure, and govern stakeholder requirements, ensuring clear traceability from business needs to technical implementation
Application management and service delivery
Own and coordinate performance testing of the HSS skater together with external partners
Facilitate the establishment of robust processes, procedures, and best practices for global service delivery and operations, ensuring the solution is fit for purpose in real‑world use
Support development of HSS operations management, including service delivery processes such as planning, scheduling, mission execution, reporting, and training
Support work related to regulatory approvals, including relevant technical inputs and documentation
Support development and continuous improvement of training programs and reporting formats used by Jotun’s technical service within Performance Coatings
Plan and implement actions to strengthen solution insight, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement
People leadership
Lead and develop direct report(s) in line with Jotun’s Leadership Expectations
Coach, develop, and enable team members to ensure a competent, engaged, and high‑performing workforce
Foster strong collaboration across teams, partners, and organizational boundaries

Formal requirements
Solid experience from technology or solution development, ideally involving complex systems, robotics, digital solutions, or advanced equipment
Experience working with or governing intellectual property (IP) and technical interfaces across organizations
Proven ability to operate in cross‑functional environments, collaborating across R&D, operations, and commercial domains
Strong understanding of how operational feedback, testing, and data can be used to drive continuous technical improvement
Leadership experience or clear motivation and capability to take on a people manager role
Personal requirements
Structured and clear communicator with the ability to build trust across technical, operational, and commercial stakeholders
Combines a hands‑on, practical mindset with strategic thinking and long‑term perspective
Comfortable working in a role that bridges technical depth and business impact
