Job Description
Summary: Johnson Controls is a global leader in smart, healthy and sustainable buildings. They are seeking a curious and driven Junior Data Scientist to join their Lean Initiative team, where the candidate will develop models, support analytics, and help bring AI-powered features to life.
Responsibilities:
- Build, train, and evaluate machine learning models that support business decisions and product features
- Develop and maintain analytics reports and dashboards that surface actionable insights for stakeholders
- Collaborate on AI product and feature work — from prototyping to production support
- Write clean, well-documented Python for data processing, modeling, and analysis
- Work with SQL to query, transform, and validate data across multiple sources Support model monitoring, performance tracking, and iterative improvement
- Explore and experiment with LLMs and GenAI frameworks to identify opportunities for intelligent automation and AI-assisted workflows
- Work across cloud platforms (Azure or Palantir) to access data, run workloads, and deploy models
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
- Hands-on experience with Python and/or R — coursework, projects, internships, or personal work all count
- Comfort writing SQL queries and working with structured and semi-structured data
- Familiarity with core ML concepts — supervised/unsupervised learning, model evaluation, feature engineering
- Exposure to at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Curiosity about LLMs and GenAI — you don't need to be an expert, but you should be excited about where the space is going
- Strong communication skills — you can explain what you built and why it matters to both technical and non-technical audiences
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn fast in a lean team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with frameworks like LangChain, Hugging Face, or OpenAI APIs
- Exposure to MLflow, dbt, or similar tools
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
- Any experience with Palantir Foundry or AIP is a bonus
