Job Description
Summary: Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate student to join our design engineering team for the summer. In this role, you will be responsible for the development & detailed design of structural airframe components, working closely with various disciplines to ensure successful integration of systems.
Responsibilities:
- Understanding of static and structural hand-calculations
- Design of composite/metallic brackets to integrate electronics and other aircraft systems
- Perform initial layout and sizing
- Fastener sizing, bond area sizing, riveting
- Composite metallic material compatibility, galvanic corrosion
- Detailed drawing creation, GD&T
- Direct communication with vendors and technicians in manufacturing
- Consult frequently with team leads
Required Qualifications:
- Rising senior of B.S. in mechanical engineering/aerospace engineering
- Proficiency in CAD, including CAD projects outside of engineering coursework
- Experience with composite and metallic component/structural design and analysis
- Excellent problem solving and communication skills
- Proficiency in composite structures design
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous internship/co-op experience in aviation or related fields
- Experience with Dassault Systemes/Catia CAD platforms
- Experience in composites manufacturing
- Experience with finite element tools
- Aircraft homebuilding or rapid prototyping experience
