Job Description
Summary: JHL Constructors is a construction company seeking a Safety Engineer Intern to apply academic training in a real-world environment. The intern will support the safety team by conducting safety inspections, hazard assessments, and assisting with safety training initiatives to promote a safe working environment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct and document safety observations, hazard assessments, and jobsite inspections
- Support jobsite visits to help prevent, recognize, evaluate, and control safety and industrial hygiene issues
- Participate in pre-job safety planning, including developing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Written Silica Exposure Control Plans, and Site-Specific Emergency Action Plans (EAPs)
- Help manage and organize weekly toolbox talks, ensuring relevant and timely safety topics are addressed
- Support the assessment of company-wide safety training needs and contribute to the development of the annual training calendar, including CPR and First Aid refreshers
- Assist with tracking and documenting workplace injuries and illnesses, ensuring timely completion of First Reports of Injury
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, or a related field
- Familiarity with safety management principles and construction safety practices
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in dynamic work environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to effectively engage with employees, trade partners, clients, and regulatory officials
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel statewide
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous internship or work experience in construction or safety
- OSHA 30 certification or willingness to obtain during the internship
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software
