Job Description
Summary: J. G. Kern Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a Quality Engineering Intern to support manufacturing operations and quality initiatives. This role provides hands-on experience with quality assurance practices, including inspections, data analysis, and process improvement projects.
Responsibilities:
- Collect and analyze production and quality data, preparing reports on scrap, rework, and defect trends
- Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) efforts for manufacturing issues
- Use attribute and variable gauging to accurately measure parts
- Participate in process audits and assist in ensuring adherence to quality standards
- Assist with statistical process control (SPC), capability studies, and measurement system analysis (MSA)
- Help maintain and update work instructions, inspection plans, and control documents
- Collaborate with operators, technicians, and engineers to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity
- Gain exposure to lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other quality methodologies used in industrial environments
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related Engineering field
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to read technical drawings/blueprints and interpret GD&T
- Proficient in data analysis; exposure to Minitab or similar statistical software
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively on the shop floor
- Eagerness to learn in a hands-on manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with quality tools such as SPC, 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, or FMEA
