Summary: Coherent is a global leader in lasers and engineered materials, and they are seeking a motivated technical intern to join their Process Engineering team for Summer 2026. The intern will gain hands-on experience in crystal defect inspection and identification while contributing to projects that support the team's objectives. Responsibilities: - Main focus will be on inspecting and characterizing the starting seeds, tracing them through crystal growth and inspecting and characterizing the generational resulting products that come from that seed family. This is part of two different projects by process engineering to improve certain crystal defects - Using software such as SQL, Excel, JMP, Powerpoint and Python. Individual will be trained by Process Engineering and R&D on the software involved as part of their internship - Physically inspecting and characterizing the seeds and boules under guidance of process engineering and R&D - Analyzing crystal quality outputs electronically under guidance of process engineering and R&D - Electronically tracing and documenting seed genealogy under guidance of process engineering and R&D - Individual will present their work to management in a 15 minute presentation at the end of term Required Qualifications: - Candidate should at least be a rising sophomore pursuing a BS degree in engineering, material science or a related technical field - Open to currently enrolled students or those who have graduated within one year of the internship start date - Excellent written and verbal communication - Team-oriented but able to work independently when needed - Adaptable and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment - Attention to detail and time management - ITAR compliance is required for this position - Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, or protected individual) - Compliance with all applicable export control regulations - All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp.
