Job Description
Summary: II-VI Aerospace & Defense is a global leader in lasers and engineered materials, seeking a motivated Engineering Intern for Summer 2026. The intern will gain hands-on experience in component testing, assembly processes, and design reviews, contributing to projects that support team and company objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with data collection and analysis. Implement SPC on existing processes and develop department BI reports to display data
- Assist PE with conducting work instruction reviews and implementation of process improvements
- Identify potential AI based solutions for improved efficiency within the department
- Other general QA testing and characterization of optical assemblies
- Laser testing of production parts
- Recording testing results into database
- Assist in 5S program
- Work with Oracle
- Assist in department transfer activities to offshore facilities
Required Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a 4-year engineering program
- Completion of 1 year towards bachelor's degree
- Majors: Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or similar)
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Team-oriented but able to work independently when needed
- Adaptable and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and time management
- Regular use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary
- Production floor and lab work as required
- Some areas involve the handling of finished products requiring strong attention to details
- Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or in meetings
- Occasional lifting of objects or materials up to 20 pounds for administrative tasks
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. EHS standards
- Depending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant coursework or extracurricular experience in Office 365 and Python is a plus
- Open to currently enrolled students or those who have graduated within one year of the internship start date
