Job Description
Summary: HX5, LLC is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. They are currently seeking a Power Electronics Intern to provide engineering support for NASA’s Glenn Research Center, focusing on developing next-generation hybrid propulsion technologies. The role involves conducting analyses, designs, assemblies, and tests to evaluate novel solutions for hybrid electric propulsion sub-systems.
Responsibilities:
- Provide power electronics engineering support to NASA’s Glenn Research Center
- Conduct analyses, designs, assemblies, integrations, ground test and flight test cycles to evaluate the potential of novel solutions
- Create a rapid, novel system design methodology for next-generation hybrid propulsion through identifying and evaluating open-source software packages and artificial intelligence packages
Required Qualifications:
- Understanding of power electronics and bi-directional DC/DC converters
- Understanding of lithium chemistry battery packs, specifically the requirements of charge and discharge cycles
- The ability to use ECAD tools (KiCAD) for circuit design and PCB layout
- Must be enrolled in an electrical engineering program at an ABET accredited institution
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and systematic testing skills required to safely conduct experimental demonstrations on bi-directional DC/DC converter test beds
- Understanding of AI tools to add in the generation of technical designs
- Familiar with DC power buses, voltage regulation, and power flow management
- Familiar with the use of AI models/tool to conduct research and aid in technical designs
