POSITION PURPOSE
Under general supervision of the Controller, the Staff Accountant provides support to financial accounting areas, including general accounting, accounts payable, cashiering and Journal entries.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Opens daily Accounting mail and distribute to appropriate area.
- Assists with Accounts Payable voucher input and processing.
- Reviews vendor statements monthly for missing invoices.
- Cashiering duties like posting Journal entries for daily cash.
- Prints A/R refunds as approved and prepare packet for A/P processing.
- Researches and pulls backup for vendor reconciliations.
- Assists with month end close process like bank reconciliations, departmentals, and WCHD reimbursements.
- Pulls documents as needed for projects or audits such as Cost Report, Wage Index, Financial, Internal Audit, etc.
- Sorts, processes, and distributes daily incoming mail to hospital as needed.
- Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
- Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
LATITUDE, CONTACTS/INTERACTIONS
All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members. Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business
Experience: Two years of accounting
Required Skills: Good mathematical perception. Strong Computer Skills. Accuracy in daily work and other projects. Ability to meet communicated schedules and deadlines. Ability to maintain good working relationships with vendors and HMH employees.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent: sitting, standing, walking, & reaching.
Occasional: lifting, carrying, bending, & squatting.
Visual and hearing acuity required. Work is inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.
Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens.
