Responsibilities

2. Assign tasks, monitor progress, and support mechanics in troubleshooting complex repairs and inspect completed work for quality.

7. Perform major and minor mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and inspections on all district vehicles in a timely and efficient manner and without supervision. Maintain accurate, up-to-date preventive maintenance records.
9. Rebuild, replace, or repair major vehicle components, assemblies, and systems including engines, transmissions, suspensions, electrical, and cooling systems. Maintain accurate and detailed records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.
11. Ensure shop, equipment, and tools are in safe operating condition. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor. Follow district safety protocols, emergency procedures, and cleanliness of the maintenance facility.
13. Operates service vehicles to include tire truck, service truck and heavy wrecker as required. Performs maintenance work on road service calls including general towing, extrication, recoveries, accidents, jump starting batteries, changing flat tires, fuel delivery, and general troubleshooting of disabled vehicles.
15. Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and state-specific school bus safety standards.
17. Order parts, manage inventory, and coordinate with vendors for outsourced work.
19. Perform other job-related duties as assigned, contributing to the department’s mission of delivering safe, student-centered transportation services across HISD.
