About Horse Powertrain

Horse Powertrain Limited is an independent new powertrain solutions business, with over 125 years of heritage from Renault and Geely. We develop and produce world-class hybrid and combustion engines and transmissions to move our industry forward, offering many different paths to net zero.

Horse Powertrain has 19,000 dedicated and determined employees, working in 17 manufacturing plants, and 5 R&D centers on three continents. This role is employed by Horse Powertrain Ltd and is based at head office in London, with occasional travel possible to Horse Powertrain’s other sites.

Thesis Opportunity How can we make risk analysis smarter, faster, and more accurate? At Horse Powertrain, you will explore how AI and manufacturing knowledge can transform traditional PFMEA work into an intelligent, self-learning process.

Your Challenge PFMEAs are essential for ensuring quality and reducing manufacturing risks, but creating them requires significant time and expertise. This thesis will investigate how data from previous FMEAs, quality reports, field claims, lessons learned, and other engineering sources can be used to automatically support risk identification and assessment.

Purpose To improve the accuracy, efficiency, and knowledge reuse of PFMEA processes by leveraging manufacturing data and AI-based methods.

Goal Develop a concept for a Self-Learning Risk Intelligence Framework that can:

• Identify potential failure modes using historical data.
• Capture and reuse lessons learned across projects.
• Support dynamic and data-driven risk assessments.
• Reduce the effort required to create and maintain PFMEAs.

What You'll Gain

• Hands-on experience in quality, manufacturing, and risk management.
• Exposure to AI applications in an industrial environment.
• Collaboration with experts in Manufacturing Engineering and Quality.
• Experience solving real-world automotive challenges.

Who Are You? An engineering student with an interest in Manufacturing, Quality, Risk Assessment, and AI. Experience with FMEA or quality tools is a plus, but curiosity, analytical thinking, and a proactive mindset are what matter most.
