Duties & Responsibilities
The appointee will provide operational support for the research and teaching laboratories of the Division of Life Science. Major duties include working in the laboratory washing facility to clean, dry, and sterilize laboratory glassware and plasticware, and operating an industrial-grade autoclave for the sterilization of laboratory supplies and reagents.
The appointee will also support the operation of communal laboratory facilities by collecting and autoclaving tissue culture biohazardous waste, maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of shared laboratory areas, and cleaning communal equipment such as CO2 incubators, water baths, centrifuges, laboratory benches, and refrigerators. Responsibilities also include monitoring stock levels of laboratory consumables, distributing supplies to laboratory users and supporting laboratory safety practices.
Preference will be given to candidates holding a valid Certificate of Competency (Class III) issued under the Boilers and Pressure Vessels Ordinance (Cap. 56).
The appointee will work a five-day week and may occasionally be required to work outside normal office hours to support seminars, other academic activities, and emergency situations.
Requirements
- Form 5 (HKCEE) / Form 6 (HKDSE) or above.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in biological laboratories.
- Basic understanding of written and spoken English.
- Good communication skills in Cantonese and Putonghua.
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Responsible, self-motivated, and willing to assist colleagues when required.
(Duration: 2 years, from 2 November 2026 to 1 November 2028)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits will be provided, including annual leave and medical and dental benefits. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of the contract.
