Job Description
Summary: Homebase is a company focused on helping small businesses thrive by building tools that simplify the day-to-day operations of hourly teams. As a Product Design Intern, you will own real projects, working end-to-end across research to ship products, while collaborating with product managers and engineers to design intuitive user experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Own The Full Design Process
- Work end-to-end on real product problems, from research and scoping to prototypes, and final designs
- Translate user needs and business goals into clear, intuitive experiences across iOS, Android, and web
- Prototype quickly and iteratively, using feedback from users and stakeholders to sharpen your decisions
- Get your work in front of real users—and ship it to production
- Champion The User
- Conduct user research to identify pain points and unmet needs among our small business and hourly worker audiences
- Synthesize qualitative and quantitative signals to inform design decisions
- Shadow research calls and observe how customers use our product to build genuine product intuition
- Strengthen The Craft
- Contribute to Homebase's design system to help the team ship higher-quality work, faster
- Bring visual polish and attention to detail to every surface you touch
- Help maintain consistency across mobile and web platforms
- Collaborate And Ship
- Partner closely with engineers to bring designs to life from spec through implementation
- Participate in design crits, stand-ups, and collaborative working sessions as a full member of the team
- Give and receive feedback with clarity, generosity, and a genuine desire to improve
- Work AI-first
- Use AI tools (Figma MCP, Claude, Cursor, V0, or similar) to move faster, explore ideas more broadly, and reduce friction in your workflow
- Identify opportunities where AI can improve the quality or speed of design output
Required Qualifications:
- A strong portfolio that demonstrates product thinking—your process matters as much as your output
- Experience designing user flows, wireframes, and interactive prototypes
- Articulate design decisions to cross-functional partners
- Self-directed and comfortable navigating ambiguity—you ask good questions and figure things out
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Design, HCI, Interaction Design, or a related field
- Academic or personal project work that shows strong design thinking and a user-first mindset
- Eagerness to learn, receive feedback, and grow quickly in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior internship experience in a product or tech environment
- Experience running or contributing to user research
- Familiarity with front-end basics (HTML, CSS) or advanced prototyping tools (ProtoPie, Framer)
- Experience contributing to or working within a design system
- A habit of using AI tools to accelerate your design process
