Position Overview
Home Sweet Home Residential Care is seeking a dependable, experienced, and confident Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide overnight and weekend support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential group home setting.
This position is best suited for a DSP who is calm under pressure, emotionally mature, consistent, and comfortable supporting individuals who may occasionally display challenging behaviors, including yelling, verbal escalation, refusal, agitation, or property destruction.
We are looking for someone who understands that challenging behavior requires patience, professionalism, appropriate boundaries, redirection, and effective de-escalation—not confrontation. The successful candidate must be able to maintain a safe environment while treating residents with dignity and respect.

Primary Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision, support, and assistance to residents according to their Individual Support Plans (ISPs).
- Maintain a safe, structured, respectful, and supportive home environment.
- Use appropriate de-escalation, redirection, positive behavioral supports, and conflict-resolution techniques when residents become upset or agitated.
- Recognize changes in behavior and intervene early when possible to prevent further escalation.
- Follow individualized behavioral strategies, safety protocols, and crisis-prevention procedures.
- Complete required overnight safety checks and ensure residents' health and safety throughout the shift.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, personal care, hygiene, meals, household routines, and other needs as required.
- Administer medications according to physician orders and medication administration requirements after completing required training.
- Complete accurate and timely progress notes, medication documentation, incident reports, and other required records.
- Assist residents with morning and evening routines as applicable to the scheduled shift.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the home and complete assigned household responsibilities.
- Communicate significant behavioral, medical, safety, or household concerns to management promptly.
- Follow all Home Sweet Home Residential Care policies, DBHDS requirements, Human Rights regulations, and confidentiality requirements.
Ideal Candidate
We are particularly interested in candidates who:
- Have previous experience as a DSP, residential counselor, behavioral health technician, mental health technician, CNA, caregiver, or similar direct-care professional.
- Have experience supporting adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or behavioral support needs.
- Are confident working independently during overnight hours.
- Understand how to redirect behavior without engaging in power struggles.
- Are reliable and understand the importance of arriving on time for residential shift coverage.
- Have strong judgment and know when a situation requires additional assistance or emergency intervention.
- Can establish appropriate professional boundaries while developing positive relationships with residents.
- Are comfortable completing electronic documentation and basic computer-based tasks.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and follow written instructions and support plans.
- Ability to pass required criminal background checks and other employment screenings.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record preferred.
- CPR/First Aid and medication administration certification preferred; training will be provided if necessary.
- Must be physically and emotionally capable of responding appropriately during behavioral or emergency situations.
- Must be dependable and able to consistently work the scheduled weekend/overnight shifts.
Compensation
$18.00–$22.00 per hour, depending upon relevant experience, training, certifications, and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a residential behavioral-support environment.
This is a 38-hour-per-week position, with the possibility of additional hours becoming available in the future.
What We Are Looking For
This is not simply a sleep-shift position. We need a strong DSP who can provide active, responsible supervision and who will remain attentive to the needs and safety of the residents throughout the shift.
We are looking for someone who is steady, observant, patient, confident, and skilled at de-escalating difficult situations while maintaining appropriate boundaries and resident dignity.
Home Sweet Home Residential Care is committed to providing person-centered services in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
