The Opportunity

Are you looking to build an engaging, hands-on career where no two days look the same? At Holcim, you will play a vital part in producing the essential materials that build our local communities and sustainable infrastructure.

Based at our Sunderland Asphalt site, you will join a supportive, close-knit team that takes genuine pride in delivery, quality, and respect. This on-site, permanent position provides a dynamic workplace with a consistent core schedule of Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 16:00, offering you stability alongside practical, varied work. There will be opportunity for overtime as and when required by the business.

In this role, you will develop a diverse set of practical skills across multiple site functions. Your key responsibilities include:

• Operating mobile plant safely, including loading shovels and 360 excavators over 10T, to manage stockpiles, feed the plant, load vehicles, and keep site haul roads well maintained.
• Controlling the asphalt fixed plant to produce quality materials that satisfy customer expectations and industry standards.
• Welcoming visitors and hauliers at the weighbridge, carrying out site inductions, and assisting with dispatch and inventory records.
• Monitoring aggregate stock levels and ensuring bays and hoppers are correctly replenished.
• Carrying out routine inspections, safety checks, plant lubrication, and minor maintenance to keep equipment running efficiently.
• Collaborating with teammates to maintain high housekeeping standards across the yard and production areas.
• Upholding exemplary health, safety, and environmental standards across all site activities.

Who you are

You are a conscientious, dependable individual who enjoys active, hands-on work and thrives as part of a collaborative team. You value a workplace culture where safety, mutual trust, and practical cooperation come first.

To succeed in this role, you bring:

• A collaborative and positive spirit: You communicate openly, listen well, and enjoy working alongside colleagues to achieve shared team goals.
• A safety-conscious approach: You take personal responsibility for a safe working environment, adhere carefully to shared processes, and watch out for the wellbeing of those around you.
• Practical adaptability: You are comfortable working across varied tasks—from managing machinery to helping visitors—and bring a calm, sensible approach to everyday problem-solving.
• Good foundational numeracy and literacy: You can follow written procedures clearly, record pre-start checks accurately, and use straightforward digital weighbridge and plant systems.
• Enthusiasm to learn: Experience with mobile plant (such as loading shovels or 360 excavators) or asphalt operations is welcomed, but full comprehensive training and certification are provided to help you develop your skills.

We are committed to building a diverse environment and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. You will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or age.
