Apply Job Type Part-time Description To prayerfully provide support to a lead teacher in charge of a classroom. Duties may include helping to create lesson plans, documenting progress, grading, overseeing lesson preparations, helping with lunch and/or recess, and reinforcing lessons by tutoring individual students or small groups. Coordinate with classroom teachers and reading specialist the following duties: • Help students individually with phonetic exercises • Assist students when reading aloud in class or in groups • Periodic individualized Sight Word assessments • Quarterly individualized reading assessments • Administer make-up oral tests • Grade student work to allow for immediate feedback • Gives individual attention to students who struggle with reading skills • Provide extended lessons to individual students who need enforcement of new concepts • Collaborate with teachers regarding student’s strengths and weaknesses • Provide extra help with Bible and Reading activities • Provide supervision to students who are sick and waiting for a parent to pick them up These responsibilities are governed by the fact that the teaching assistant needs to be a Christian example and role model. Personal Qualities and Traits Faith – TA should be redeemed by the saving grace of Jesus Christ and personally committed to serve Him. TA should model biblical principles in making choices. Appearance – TA should display a general impression of neatness, modesty and professionalism. TA Attitude – TA should be conscientious and responsible and a constructive, contributing member of the staff. TA should be respectful toward administration, the school board and the school community and should be enthusiastic about his or her work. Ability to Adjust – TA should evidence ability to adjust constructively to frustrations and unpleasant situations, always exercising good judgment. TA Maturity – TA should be calm and mature in his or her reactions. This will be demonstrated by exhibiting self-control, demonstrating the ability to cope with the unexpected, showing sound judgment, responding positively to constructive criticism and always being punctual and reliable. Public Relations – TA should recognize the need of good public relations and, accordingly, should represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school community and to the general public.
