Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse - System Float Med/Surg demonstrates advanced clinical expertise in managing complex nursing problems across diverse patient populations and clinical settings. This role requires the ability to rapidly assess and adapt to multiple units and patient care environments while maintaining exceptional standards of care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct patient care across medical/surgical units, utilizing clinical knowledge to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and identify potential complications or changes in patient condition before significant clinical deterioration occurs
- Execute a wide range of professional nursing interventions including medication administration, wound care, patient education, and post-operative care
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care
- Demonstrate flexibility and clinical judgment by rapidly orienting to different units, patient populations, and care protocols within the float pool environment
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards
- Collaborate with nursing leadership and clinical staff to support quality improvement initiatives and maintain safe patient care standards
- Work assigned day and night shifts as scheduled to meet organizational staffing needs
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Two years of related clinical nursing experience in the area of interest.
- Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing.
- Current BLS certification; ACLS, NRP, and EFM where required.
- Up-to-date TB and vaccine requirements (e.g., flu).
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-location healthcare environment.
- Experience with electronic health record systems and clinical documentation.
