Job Description
Hearth & Home Technologies is looking for a Artificial Intelligence (AI) Builder Intern to join our team in Lakeville, MN. Our internship will run approximately 12 weeks during the summer of 2026 and is a paid internship at $22.00 per hour. We are the nation’s leading manufacturer and supplier of hearth products, including a wide variety of gas, electric, wood and pellet burning fireplaces, inserts, stoves, and accessories.
Headquartered in Lakeville, Minnesota, with distribution around the world, our innovative culture is supported by a business unit structure that allows us to develop and market products with a strong focus on customers’ needs. Since 1996, we’ve been dedicated to connecting people through the warmth and comfort of our hearth products.
Each summer 10+ students join HHT for a summer focused on hands on learning. Throughout the summer, professional development sessions are provided for interns including opportunities to learn from and network with senior leadership.
HHT is looking for an AI Builder to join our Innovation team for the summer. This is a hands-on role where you will help design and build AI-powered tools that solve real problems across HHT operations and our dealer channel. You will work directly with the VP of Innovation and collaborate with HNI's AI and data science team. This is a builder role, not a research position.
Key Responsibilities
- Prototype AI-powered tools and workflows tied to real business priorities, from initial concept through a working demo or pilot release.
- Test solutions with actual users and iterate based on feedback.
- Contribute to deployed tools through documentation, testing, and reliability improvements.
- Deliver solutions using enterprise-approved platforms and code where it adds value.
- Work with HNI technical teams to understand available infrastructure, data assets, and approved solution approaches.
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand their workflows and translate real needs into functional prototypes
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to build functional solutions using code, low-code tools, or AI development platforms.
- Working familiarity with Python, JavaScript, or similar environments.
- Some experience working with AI tools or APIs in a development context (beyond just end-user use).
- Self-starter who can work with some ambiguity and move work forward without constant direction.
- Able to explain technical work clearly to non-technical audiences.
Preferred
- Experience building with large language model APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) or applied patterns such as RAG, agentic workflows, or prompt engineering.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft ecosystem: Copilot, Power Platform, Azure, SharePoint, or Teams.
