Staff Accountant at Hearst Newspapers in Charlotte, NC

Summary: Hearst Newspapers is a leading media company, and they are seeking a Staff Accountant to support their financial operations. In this role, you will prepare journal entries, manage transactions, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting. Responsibilities: - Prepare monthly journal entries and perform general ledger account reconciliations - Manage intercompany transactions, including invoicing and communication across entities - Analyze and interpret accounting reports from service organizations and partners - Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address accounting-related questions and issues - Support internal and external audit processes, including annual audit preparation - Maintain accuracy and confidentiality of financial information and records - Identify opportunities for process improvements, particularly through automation - Produce daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports (e.g., cash, accounts receivable) Required Qualifications: - 0+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience) - Foundational knowledge of accounting principles, including debits/credits, income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow - Proficiency in Excel; experience with Smart View is a plus - Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial and legal documents - Effective communication skills and the ability to build relationships across teams and levels - Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities - Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field preferred - Hybrid work schedule with 4 days per week in-office in Charlotte, NC Required Skills: Accounting principles, Excel proficiency Important Skills: Analytical skills Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) with company match, Paid time off, including vacation, sick time, and holidays, Professional development and growth opportunities, Access to wellness programs and employee resources
