Job Description
Summary: Health Research, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to public health and scientific research. They are seeking a Data Administrator III to provide project and data support for the New York Violent Death Reporting System, coordinating data collection and ensuring data quality while training staff and engaging with stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Provide project and data support to the New York Violent Death Reporting System (NYVDRS)
- Coordinate the request, review, and abstraction of data reported to the program
- Ensure that all required information is obtained from coroner/medical examiner (C/ME) and law enforcement (LE) reports
- Provide technical assistance to the C/ME and LE agencies as requested
- Monitor abstracted data for accuracy and completeness in accordance with established guidelines
- Conduct secondary review of data entered into the web-based system
- Train and supervise staff on the report request and data abstraction processes
- Maintain NYVDRS procedures and protocols
- Engage data providers to promote program participation and improve data quality
- Help to build and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders
- Represent the program at relevant meetings and conferences
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of experience in data quality control, data quality improvement, and data collection; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and three years of such experience; OR five years of such experience
- A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience
- Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required
- The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of violent deaths
- Experience with the New York Violent Death Reporting System (NYVDRS)
- Death record data abstraction including the abstraction of coroner/medical examiner and law enforcement reports
- Working within decentralized county agencies
- Medical/criminal terminology
- Working with confidential data
- Experience with the Secure Access Management System (SAMS)
- Experience with Microsoft Access
- Experience in training and supervision data abstractors
- Experience in injury and violence prevention
