Sustaining Engineer/Drafting Intern at Hammerton in Salt Lake City, UT

Summary: Hammerton is a leading American designer and manufacturer of custom decorative lighting for hospitality, commercial, and residential markets. The Sustaining Engineer/Drafting Intern creates CAD models and documentation, supports product development and improvement, maintains manufacturing documentation and bills of materials, and helps develop tooling and process improvements.

Responsibilities:
- Update existing catalog product to current standard
- Maintain manufacturing documentation of Hammerton fixtures for production using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Help create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for components and finished assemblies
- Modify existing product designs to improve manufacturability, reduce costs, or enhance quality
- Implement tools or processes for various manufacturing departments
- Communicate directly with the manufacturing floor to investigate drawing inaccuracies, production issues, determine root causes, and implement ideal engineering solutions
- Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field
- Demonstrates a strong sense of innovation and ability to execute against new ideas
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication is essential for this role
- Comfortable working on projects mostly independently in a team-oriented environment
- Must have mechanical aptitude and good spatial awareness to develop designs without construction conflicts
- Collaborative team player who contributes positively to team culture · Receptive to direction and feedback, willing to follow established processes and procedures
- Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic; comfortable taking on repetitive or routine tasks with consistency and care
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse colleagues
- Approximately 90% desk/computer work
- Moving about the building is a regular requirement to consult with sales and production teams

Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-3 yrs SolidWorks or similar CAD software experience preferred
