Position Summary

The Industrial Engineer/Designer is responsible for developing detailed three-dimensional models of industrial equipment, coordinating multidisciplinary models, and supporting the overall design-build process for industrial projects.

This position works closely with clients, equipment vendors, engineers, designers, contractors, and construction personnel. Projects may involve renovations or expansions within operating facilities, as well as the design and construction of new industrial buildings.

Because each project presents unique equipment, operational, and site requirements, the successful candidate must be adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop accurate 3D models of industrial and process equipment using Autodesk Revit.
• Create and coordinate utility bridges and support systems for process piping, mechanical piping, electrical cable tray, and other utilities extending to designated connection points.
• Establish and verify equipment clearances, maintenance access, operational space, and safe personnel access.
• Perform multidisciplinary interference and clash-detection reviews using Revit and Navisworks.
• Develop coordinated drawings identifying equipment locations, dimensions, access requirements, maintenance clearances, and utility connection points.
• Coordinate industrial equipment and process requirements with architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing designs.
• Provide equipment loading, anchorage, foundation, and support requirements to structural engineers for the design of concrete and structural-steel systems.
• Develop design geometry and construction drawings for equipment foundations, trenches, pits, floor openings, curbs, housekeeping pads, mezzanines, platforms, stairs, ladders, handrails, and equipment-access systems.
• Coordinate overhead cranes, crane runways, crane travel paths, lifting zones, maintenance access, and required clearances around large process equipment.
• Incorporate vendor drawings, equipment data, utility requirements, and client standards into the coordinated project model.
• Review vendor information for completeness and compatibility with the building and supporting utility systems.
• Lead or participate in model-review meetings with clients, vendors, engineers, contractors, and construction teams using Navisworks and other project-coordination tools.
• Assist with the preparation and issuance of design packages, permit documents, construction documents, and field-revision packages.
• Respond to field questions and revise models and drawings as equipment information and project requirements develop.
• Maintain accurate and coordinated models in a schedule-driven design-build environment where changes may occur frequently.
• Follow all applicable client standards, H&M procedures, building codes, and project-specific requirements.
• Visit project sites to verify existing conditions, review construction progress, perform inspections, develop punch lists, and attend coordination meetings.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, industrial design, or a related technical field is preferred.
• Minimum of five years of experience in industrial design, industrial equipment layout, multidisciplinary coordination, or a related position is preferred.
• Significant experience using Autodesk Revit for 3D modeling and construction-document production is required.
• Experience using Autodesk Navisworks for model coordination, design reviews, and clash detection is strongly preferred.
• Experience in the design-build industry is beneficial but not required.
• Engineer-in-Training certification or Professional Engineer licensure is beneficial but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

• Ability to independently develop coordinated industrial layouts and complete design packages with appropriate support from engineering disciplines.
• Strong understanding of industrial equipment layout, maintenance clearances, material flow, personnel access, constructability, and utility coordination.
• Ability to read and interpret equipment drawings, vendor documents, construction drawings, specifications, and point-cloud or existing-condition information.
• Strong Revit modeling and drawing-production skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities while meeting project schedules.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, through email, and during virtual meetings with clients, vendors, contractors, engineers, and other project stakeholders.

• Willingness to travel to construction sites for field verification, inspections, punch-list activities, and project meetings. Occasional multiday travel will be required.
