Job Description
Summary: Guidewire Software is a leading platform for Property & Casualty insurers, focusing on cloud solutions. As a Data Developer Intern, you will assist in designing and building data solutions, contributing to data migration and transformation tasks while collaborating with experienced consultants in an Agile environment.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to data migration and transformation tasks for customer implementations on Guidewire Cloud, helping reduce effort and time to value in line with PS goals to significantly cut implementation effort and timelines
- Assist in designing, developing, and testing data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes using SQL and modern object-oriented programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, or similar)
- Help analyze source and target schemas, perform data profiling, and document mapping rules that support accurate, high-quality conversions for P&C insurance data
- Support the implementation of data loading, validation, and reconciliation routines that enable trusted, production-ready data for our customers
- Collaborate with consultants, architects, and partner teams in an Agile environment—participating in stand-ups, story refinement, code reviews, and demos
- Contribute to reusable scripts, templates, and automation that make our Professional Services offerings more scalable and repeatable, aligning with PS priorities to industrialize and systematize services-led innovation
- Communicate clearly with mentors and stakeholders, sharing status, risks, and learnings, and help capture best practices and project documentation
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to your current role as well as data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement
- Currently in the final year of, or recently completed, a Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
- Proficiency in at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as Java or Python, with an interest in learning additional languages and tools as needed
- Working knowledge of SQL, including writing queries, joins, and basic optimization for data transformation and analysis
- Familiarity with at least one cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and interest in learning how large-scale SaaS and cloud platforms operate
- Understanding of core software engineering practices such as Agile development, version control, and test-driven development
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills, with attention to detail and data quality
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Scala or a strong interest in learning it for data engineering use cases
- Prior exposure to data engineering, ETL tools, or data integration projects (coursework, internships, or personal projects)
- Familiarity with insurance, financial services, or other data-rich domains
- Comfort presenting your work to peers or stakeholders and leading portions of technical discussions
