Job Description
Summary: Graphcore is a globally recognised leader in Artificial Intelligence computing systems, and they are seeking an Intern in Systems Engineering for their new AI Engineering Campus in Austin. This role involves hands-on experience in designing, testing, and analyzing hardware and software for next-generation computing systems.
Responsibilities:
- Help design and test CPU and high speed IO subsystems, learning how to measure and improve performance, power, and reliability
- Work with engineers on system-level validation and automation, creating scripts and tools to streamline testing and data analysis
- Explore emerging IO technologies (like PCIeG6 and 800G Ethernet) and how they support advanced computing workloads
- Support investigations into power, cooling, and energy efficiency, including liquid cooling systems for high-performance processors
- Collaborate across teams to understand how different components — from chips to full systems — come together in real-world platforms
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD or equivalent experience program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field
- Experience with hands-on lab testing, performing measurements with power meters, oscilloscopes or logic analyzers
- Experience in at least one programming or scripting language (such as Python, C/C++, or MATLAB)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in understanding how hardware and systems work
- Curiosity about technology beyond the classroom — such as personal projects, hackathons, or research work
- An ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly and adapt to complex engineering challenges
- Good teamwork and communication skills, with a willingness to collaborate across fields
