We welcome applications from individuals would would like to serve the community of Girdwood as a paid on call firefighter! No experience is necessary, we offer on the job training in firefighting and emergency medical services. Paid on call firefighters attend training on Tuesday nights and provide 48 hours of shift coverage per month. Firefighters are required to train for a minimum of 100 hours per year to maintain skills and certifications. A background check from the Alaska Department of Public Safety and a driving record from the Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles is required to be submitted along with a resume and cover letter at the time of application.
We are accepting applications thru September 15, 2026 or when 20 have been received. We start 6-8 new members on a 6 month probation period twice a year. Must be 18 years or older to apply. The Fall 2026 new members training dates (required) are: November 7,8,14 and 15 and December 5 and 6, 2026: 9-5pm each day.
