Network Master Planner at Genie in Mount Hope, OH
Skills
Job Description
This role is responsible for creating planning discipline across the manufacturing network by connecting SIOP outputs, demonstrated plant capacity, material availability, customer priorities, and production constraints into one executable network plan. This role functions as a control tower for manufacturing planning, providing enterprise visibility to demand, supply, capacity, constraints, and schedule risk across the full manufacturing footprint.
This position converts demand signals, customer priorities, and site capacity into a synchronized network MPS that supports customer service, plant stability, and efficient use of manufacturing resources. The Master Planner will work directly with plant schedulers, operations leaders, materials teams, customer service, logistics, finance, and commercial partners to ensure the right work is planned at the right site at the right time.
The role requires a strong network mindset and disciplined SIOP operating cadence. The Master Planner must evaluate total manufacturing capability across all sites - not just individual plant capacity - to determine the most efficient use of the network, reduce bottlenecks, minimize unnecessary overtime, improve schedule adherence, and proactively escalate risks that could impact customer delivery or operational performance.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
Network-Level MPS Ownership
- Own, maintain, and govern the network-level Master Production Schedule across all manufacturing plants
- Translate demand, customer priorities, inventory needs, and operational constraints into a synchronized and executable MPS
- Ensure plant-level schedules align to the broader network plan, capacity outlook, and customer service commitments
- Monitor schedule changes, demand shifts, backlog, capacity gaps, and service risks across the manufacturing footprint
- Provide a clear planning view of what needs to run, where it should run, and when it must be completed to support customer commitments
- Executes planning discipline through the ASD Lean Operating System, including Tiered Management, visual controls, PDCA problem solving, and SPDCC escalation
SIOP Planning & Demand-to-Supply Alignment
- Serve as the point person for SIOP planning inputs related to network capacity, production requirements, backlog, inventory, and supply constraints
- Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Finance, Materials, and Operations to align demand expectations with practical manufacturing capability
- Convert SIOP outputs into actionable MPS plans, plant requirements, and escalation items
- Identify gaps between demand and capacity early enough to support corrective action, scenario planning, and leadership decision-making
- Drive planning discipline through standard cadence, data visibility, and clear follow-up on open SIOP actions
Manufacturing Footprint & Capacity Optimization
- Evaluate manufacturing capacity across all sites to determine the most efficient location to run demand.
- Identify opportunities to level-load volume across the network, balance constraints, reduce bottlenecks, and improve throughput
- Recommend order placement or production shifts based on capacity, labor, materials, lead time, cost, service impact, and plant feasibility
- Monitor labor utilization and overtime exposure, helping the business meet demand with the least practical overtime required
- Support make-versus-shift, surge, recovery, and constraint scenarios that protect customer delivery while improving network efficiency
Control Tower Visibility & Risk Management
- Operate as the planning control tower for manufacturing execution by consolidating data from demand, capacity, inventory, backlog, and plant schedules
- Create visibility to critical constraints, overdue demand, capacity overloads, schedule misses, and customer risk
- Build and maintain planning dashboards, trackers, and review cadences that clearly show red/yellow/green status across sites
- Escalate risks with clear problem statements, customer impact, root cause, countermeasure, owner, and due date
- Ensure leadership has timely visibility to trade-offs, capacity decisions, and schedule risks requiring action
Master Scheduling & Plant Coordination
- Partner with site schedulers and manufacturing leaders to ensure the network MPS is translated into executable plant schedules
- Validate that materials, labor, equipment, tooling, and operational readiness support the committed schedule
- Coordinate schedule changes across plants when demand shifts or constraints require rebalancing.
- Drive schedule adherence reviews and support root cause analysis when plants miss planned production output
- Promote planning standard work across sites to reduce variation and improve execution reliability
Lean Planning & Continuous Improvement
- Apply Lean principles to improve production flow, reduce firefighting, stabilize schedules, and eliminate waste in the planning process
- Use visual management, standard work, daily/weekly cadence, and disciplined problem solving to support proactive execution
- Identify improvement opportunities in capacity planning, MPS governance, schedule adherence, data quality, and cross-site communication
- Support continuous improvement projects tied to overtime reduction, network utilization, lead-time improvement, inventory alignment, and service performance
- Drive a planning culture based on data, accountability, escalation discipline, and continuous improvement
Leadership Expectations
- Acts as the control tower planning leader for network-level manufacturing execution.
- Operates with a network-first mindset, balancing customer needs with plant capability and total business efficiency
- Uses data, SIOP discipline, and Lean problem solving to make proactive planning decisions
- Builds strong partnerships with plant operations, materials, customer service, logistics, finance, and commercial teams
- Communicates clearly and early when capacity, overtime, schedule adherence, or customer delivery is at risk
- Demonstrates ownership, urgency, and follow-through on cross-site planning actions.
- Challenges single-site thinking by identifying better network options for service, cost, capacity, and flow
- Maintains a continuous improvement mindset focused on schedule stability, reduced overtime, improved utilization, and customer service excellence
- Challenges local optimization when a better network-level decision exists for service, cost, capacity, or flow.
Decision Rights / Escalation Authority:
- Recommends network load balancing decisions.
- Flags when demand exceeds demonstrated capacity.
- Escalates schedule risk same day.
- Recommends overtime, capacity shifts, or constraint recovery actions.
- Does not override Plant Manager execution ownership without leadership approval.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of experience in master scheduling, production planning, supply planning, SIOP, materials planning, or manufacturing operations planning
- Experience planning across multiple manufacturing sites or complex product families preferred.
- Strong understanding of Master Production Scheduling, SIOP, capacity planning, ERP/MRP, finite scheduling, labor planning, and inventory flow
- Demonstrated ability to balance demand and supply across a manufacturing network while protecting customer service and reducing operational waste
- Ability to analyze capacity, backlog, overtime exposure, labor constraints, material availability, and plant execution risk
- Strong ERP/MRP and data analysis skills; advanced Excel and planning/reporting tool capability preferred
- Experience building or maintaining planning dashboards, trackers, capacity views, or executive-level planning summaries.
- Lean manufacturing, visual management, standard work, or continuous improvement experience preferred
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence plant teams, business leaders, customer service, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-visibility manufacturing environment
Position Impact
This role is pivotal in creating one synchronized manufacturing plan across the network. Success will be measured by how effectively the Master Planner builds and governs a reliable network MPS, supports SIOP execution, improves manufacturing footprint utilization, reduces unnecessary overtime, and provides early visibility to risks that could impact customer service or operational performance.
By operating as a planning control tower, this position helps the organization move from reactive plant-by-plant scheduling to proactive network planning. The role directly impacts on-time delivery, capacity utilization, overtime cost, schedule adherence, inventory alignment, and leadership visibility across all manufacturing sites.
