Overview
The Value Stream Manager (VSM) is responsible for leading the end-to-end performance of a manufacturing value stream, driving safety, quality, delivery, and cost outcomes. This role implements the Generac Manufacturing System (GMS) to create a safe, efficient, and high-performing operation while enabling continuous improvement and an exceptional customer experience.
The VSM leads daily operations and people development across the value stream, ensuring consistent execution of production objectives while building a capable, engaged team. This leader plays a critical role in stabilizing operations, improving productivity, and supporting growth initiatives such as new product introductions and product transfers.
Responsibilities
Lead day-to-day operations of the value stream, ensuring delivery of daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual performance targets across safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Drive implementation of the Generac Manufacturing System (GMS), focusing on flow, pull systems, standard work, and visual management to enable continuous improvement.
Stabilise and optimise production lines, removing bottlenecks, improving throughput, and increasing overall productivity.
Build and lead a high-performing team by coaching supervisors and operators, developing talent, and fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous learning.
Create a culture of “stop-to-fix,” ensuring quality at the source and driving root cause problem solving using PDCA and MDI processes.
Establish and maintain Leader Standard Work to ensure consistent execution and adherence to processes and operational discipline.
Develop and execute short- and long-term continuous improvement plans to improve KPIs related to people, safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Ensure effective training and cross-training to support workforce flexibility and operational continuity.
Lead and coordinate New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and support product transfers into the value stream.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, HR, Planning, and Materials to drive operational excellence and achieve business objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or related field OR equivalent experience
5 years progressive operations or lean management experience
Preferred Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in manufacturing environments such as assembly, fabrication, or related production processes
Demonstrated experience implementing Lean principles, including flow, Kanban, and continuous improvement systems
Experience leading teams in a multi-department manufacturing environment with a focus on coaching and development
Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP
Experience with visual management, standard work, and problem-solving methodologies (e.g., PDCA, MDI)
Proven ability to stabilise operations, improve productivity, and drive KPI performance
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders
Lean, Operations, or Supply Chain certifications preferred
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
