Job Description
Summary: Gateway Region YMCA is a community-focused nonprofit that aims to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. They are seeking a Community Development Specialist to deliver engaging programs, lead activities, and support participants in achieving their goals.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver a highly interactive experience to group of participants in the program and create an experience that promotes success in specific program
- Organize, lead and adapt a variety of stimulating activities appropriate for the age and experience of the group with a positive and enthusiastic manner
- Maintain and use program resources efficiently and ecologically
- Provide safe conditions and refrain from engaging in activities that may be hazardous or negligent to those involved
- Keep the Program Director informed of activities and any progress of problems or questions related to the program
- Actively participate in all of the program activities
- Lead and facilitate lessons that teach, model and practice social emotional and content area skills
- Adapt lessons to the needs and experience of participants and engage all members of the group in ways that allow them to build their skills and confidence
- Complete evaluations with program participants and communicate results appropriately
- Maintain confidentiality of program participants
- Evaluate program effectiveness and make adjustments to enhance the outcomes and experience
- Provide direction and support to volunteers and/or staff as assigned
- Attend assigned staff training
- Represent the YMCA and create a program culture that incorporates, highlights and models the Y values
- Maintain positive, professional communication with site contacts and/or participant families
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with target age groups
- Post-secondary education in program area
