Job Description
Summary: FirstEnergy is a forward-thinking electric utility dedicated to safety, reliability, and operational excellence. As a Supply Chain Operational Buyer Intern, you will support procurement activities and collaborate with various teams to enhance supply chain operations.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting cross‑functional business units by executing procurement activities, including purchasing of materials/services and assisting in strategic category management initiatives
- Collaborating with Operational Buyers, Category Specialists, and Sourcing Managers to execute high‑volume transactions such as purchase orders (POs), change orders, and statements of work, ensuring alignment with procurement best practices and internal policies
- Partnering effectively across multiple supply chain functions and organizational levels to facilitate smooth procurement operations
- Assisting in high‑value sourcing events, including competitive bidding, supplier evaluations, and contract negotiations
- Performing tasks within Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) such as contract archival, document management, and compliance verification
- Helping to strategically convert material purchase requests to existing preferred supplier contracts to drive cost savings and procurement efficiency
- Supporting leadership and team members through business research, data gathering, analytics, report compilation, and insights development
- Providing strong internal stakeholder support, building relationships, and contributing to operational excellence within the supply chain organization
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Supply Chain Management or related field at an accredited institution
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Must have a graduation date not earlier than May 2028
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with data analysis or procurement systems is a plus
- A proactive, curious mindset with a strong desire to learn, problem‑solve, and build professional relationships
- Understanding of basic research methodologies and the ability to synthesize findings for leadership‑level presentations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the confidence to present to diverse audiences
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain high attention to detail
- Strong teamwork orientation with a commitment to workplace safety
- Analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to approach challenges creatively
