Job Description
Summary: FirstEnergy is a forward-thinking electric utility dedicated to integrity, safety, reliability, and operational excellence. The Geospatial Technology Analyst Intern will work with a team to support geospatial applications related to distribution, transmission, and vegetation management, actively contributing to the team while gaining professional development through on-the-job training.
Responsibilities:
- Understanding the business functions to provide optimal solutions that are scalable, reliable, and cost effective
- Managing the testing and deployment of patches and software upgrades
- Maintaining integrations and interfaces between FirstEnergy systems
- Performing system security administration tasks
- Supporting GSI DDS & ESRI ArcGIS for Designing and Mapping interfaces
- Supporting data extraction and transformation through the FME Workbench and Python scripts
- Developing data queries and extracts to meet customer requirements built on Oracle DB and Microsoft SQL Server Technologies
- Developing a solid understanding of processes in the FirstEnergy Operational Technology line of business, keeping up with developments in the electric utility industry at large, and being able to speak the language of the business
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled, full time, in a bachelor's degree program at an accredited university/college focusing on Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering or other technology related disciplines
- Class Standing – Rising Junior or Rising Senior
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of, or experience with, any kind of coding or scripting language (e.g. Perl, Python, Java, C#, PowerShell, SQL etc.)
- Experience with relational databases, including architecture, design, and reading and revising data through software applications
- Experience supporting software solutions
- Experience troubleshooting personal devices, such as laptops or tablets
- Familiarity with server administration and support
- High Level understanding of Windows Server, Windows PC, and UNIX/Linux operating systems and system administration fundamentals
