Job Description
Summary: First Solar is a leader in sustainable energy, offering internships that provide real-world experience in various fields. The Material Analysis Intern will learn about advanced analytical instruments and participate in experiments related to solar cell analysis, contributing to the company's mission of innovation in energy solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Learn all the Scanning Electron Microscopy/Electron Back-scattered Diffraction related sample preparations and measurements
- Gain hands on experience on this advanced lab equipment and perform state of art structure analysis of the absorber of solar cells
- Work on EBSD analysis of the grain structure of solar cells and investigate the factors that influence the grain structure deposition
- Build a baseline knowledge of the PK variation(s) and processing parameters that influence grain size and orientation
- Present their accomplishments and project summary to the leadership team
Required Qualifications:
- Sophomore or higher level college
- Science background undergrad students prefer Material Science, Chemistry, Engineering, etc
- Hands on experience with SEM during classes
- Able to operate advanced analytical instruments and sample preparation tools after training
- Plan, organize, and execute engineering experiments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Adheres to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards
- Proven communications skills and attention to detail
- Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, OneNote, etc.)
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision, pay attention to detail and be results-oriented
- Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, cut resistant gloves, jackets, aprons &/or arm guards, safety glasses, hearing protection)
- All candidates receiving an offer of employment must successfully complete a background check and any other tests that may be required
- Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift
- Will climb stairs on an occasional basis
- Will lift, push or pull up to 37 pounds on an occasional basis
- Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
- 20/40 vision in both eyes together, with or without correction, is required
- May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
- May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards, and a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair) for those requiring respirator use)
