STRIDES Indonesia advances U.S. Government priorities in Global Health Security (GHS) by supporting the Government of Indonesia to strengthen detection, surveillance, and response systems across human and animal health sectors. The program also contributes to polio eradication efforts by enhancing surveillance capacity and coordination in priority geographies, ensuring timely identification and response to potential outbreaks.
Job Summary:
The Deputy Project Director will provide guidance for and implementation of the Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) projects in Indonesia within the project framework, government policies and strategies, and in compliance with donor/funder regulations. The Deputy Project Director will play a central leadership role in driving day-to-day implementation of the Activity, ensuring delivery of high-quality results across technical, operational, and administrative functions in a fast-paced, complex USG-funded environment. S/He will work with the STRIDES project team to ensure continued high performance and responsiveness to changing needs and opportunities. The role will serve as the primary operational counterpart to the Project Director, ensuring alignment between strategic direction and execution, and maintaining accountability for achieving work plan targets, deliverables, and performance metrics. S/He will work closely and collaboratively with the various departments to support implementation of the STRIDES project.
Accountabilities:
Provide leadership and management support for the STRIDES project, ensuring strategically coherent project direction, well-managed growth, and compliance with and donor regulations.
Lead day-to-day implementation of the Activity, ensuring timely execution of work plan activities across Global Health Security (GHS) and Polio portfolios.
Continually seek out ways to build the capacities of the STRIDES project team members, individually and collectively.
Ensure delivery of program results against approved work plans, including tracking progress against indicators, milestones, and deliverables, and proactively identifying and resolving implementation bottlenecks.
Oversee the Operations management team on appropriate management, compliance, and performance standards, as well as effective systems for budget management, knowledge management and risk management associated with the projects assigned to the project.
Under the Project Director, help oversee coordination across technical and operational teams to ensure integration of program activities and alignment with Government of Indonesia priorities under a One Health framework.
Support programming staff to collect, document and disseminate lessons learned and best practices, incorporating these into new project/program designs.
Ensure high-quality donor reporting and communication, including contributions to technical reports, briefings, and presentations to the U.S. Government and Government of Indonesia counterparts.
Oversee the management of procurement and sub-contracts, ensuring timely mobilization, performance monitoring, and alignment with STRIDES objectives.
Ensure routine monitoring visits to the field are conducted to ensure donor compliance and quality project implementation.
Coordinate with the stakeholders’ units to ensure sound budget management, expense control and timely contractual documentation.
Work closely with finance and operations teams to ensure effective budget execution, forecasting, and compliance with USG regulations.
Support all relevant departments and units and ensure they take place on time. Also ensure that programming staff are well trained to properly manage project budgets.
Ensure that the project management team review documentation on a regular basis; provide leadership and management support to ensure effective monthly grant review meetings.
Mitigate any potential risk with the Finance unit(s) to ensure that programming staff fully understand financial and administrative processes involved in project budget cycles.
Develop a sound understanding of the project to be able to professionally represent the organization to implementing partners, the government, and donors.
Develop strong relationships with donors, assisting with visits and in the development of appropriate advocacy actions. Represent the Activity in high-level meetings with donors, government, and partners as delegated by the Project Director.
Forge and maintain solid cooperation with partner organizations through regular communication, cooperation and, where appropriate, joint decision-making. Drive coordination across partners to ensure complementarity and avoid duplication of efforts.
Act as the focal point for project-related communication between country projects in the region.
Oversee programmatic inputs to advocacy efforts both in-country and globally.
Create a supervisory environment focused on the achievement of team and individual results that emphasizes the importance of learning, productivity, accountability, and openness.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Applied Knowledge & Skills:
Effective knowledge of design, implementation, and management of sector specific and/or multi- sector/international development projects/programs funded by U.S. government or other international donors.
Strong knowledge of Global Health Security (GHS), surveillance systems, laboratory strengthening, and/or multisectoral approaches is highly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-partner programs in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
Strong understanding of U.S. Government (USG) rules, regulations, and reporting requirements.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Health, Business management, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
Typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience (including 3+ years of management experience).
Experience working with Government of Indonesia ministries (MOA, MOH highly desired).
Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating across technical and operational functions.

Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift/move up to 5 lbs.
Technology to be Used:
Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.
Travel Requirements:
Ability to travel domestically up to 25%
The expected hiring salary range for this role is IDR 500,000,000 - 700,000,000 annually for basis salary. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, market pay,and budget.
