Essential Functions

Research – Continue to maintain the excellence of the Research Division through a variety of internal and external activities:

• Contribute to and originate research projects on the national economy, growth and development of economic regions around the world, macroeconomics, microeconomics, international economics, policy, or related subject areas.
• Publish research papers on economic topics in leading economics research journals.
• Present research at high-quality academic and policy conferences and in seminars at leading universities and other research institutions.

Policy – Provide timely and well-thought-out analysis on relevant policy issues:

• Analyze and interpret a range of international, national, and/or regional economic information as a basis for evaluating policy alternatives relevant to the Bank's policy mission, and provide analyses to management.
• Coordinate or prepare summaries of papers and conferences, provide data analysis and insights, and conduct medium-to-longer term research projects on policy-related issues of current interest.
• Present research and policy analyses to Bank, Board of Directors, and Federal Reserve System audiences.
• Assist management in writing speeches and in performing related activities of a supportive nature.

Service – Contribute to activities relevant for the functioning and external visibility of the Research Division:

• Contribute to prominent Bank and System initiatives and programs when appropriate opportunities arise.
• Assist Bank management in recruiting activities and organization of department programs.

Management – Foster a culture of continuous improvement and promote a positive work environment:

• May assume training and work direction responsibilities.
   

Education/Certification and Experience/Skills Required

• PhD degree in Economics.
• Typically 0 to 4 years of experience after the PhD.  Experience typically consists of work as a tenure-track faculty member at the assistant professor level in an economics department or as an economist at a public or private sector institution focused on the rigorous analysis of current economic and policy issues.
• Demonstrated strong analytical skills for current economic and policy issues.  Ability to conduct research of the highest quality as demonstrated by the PhD dissertation.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
