Job Description
Position Summary
The Product Safety Engineer, Renewable Energy performs testing and evaluation on a variety of products for conformance to U.S., Canadian and other international product safety standards, writes reports and communicates with clients. This is a full training role for a recent graduate or early-career engineer: under the guidance of a more senior engineer, this role builds a foundation in core product safety testing while training toward supporting the lab's renewable energy program, including inverters, battery energy storage systems and EV equipment.

Tasks/Responsibilities
- Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards for the equipment under test (EUT).
- Validate project scope and sample applicability.
- Set up and operate the EUT; perform and document simple repairs on the EUT as needed.
- Perform testing of products in accordance with applicable standards.
- Complete preliminary design reviews (PDR), both on and off site, as experience grows.
- Develop, set up and follow established test plans.
- Compile test results during construction review and testing. Compile data and product description and prepare the final report using the established report shell. Submit the report to a reviewer for approval.
- Communicate project status and test results to clients, sales personnel and management throughout testing.
- Provide ongoing support to clients as needed.
- Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document and recommend engineering judgments.
- Cross train on renewable energy testing disciplines as the program develops, working alongside the Senior Product Safety Engineer, Renewable Energy team.
- Perform other work as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
- 0 to 2 years of experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Coursework, project experience or general interest in power electronics or renewable energy systems is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Self motivated and able to work independently in a fast paced, multi tasking environment.
- Ability to travel as business needs dictate, up to 15%.
Physical Demands
- Able to sit or stand for long periods of time.

- Physical dexterity and mobility to travel by car and airplane and to perform all functions inherent to the position.
- Able to work with hand tools and small power tools.
Additional Information
Compensation:
- Salary Range: $68,000-$88,000
Schedule:
- Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
