Description
We are seeking a Junior Full-Stack Developer (Co-op) from the BCIT Computing Co-op program to join our growing team and help build technology that supports our global mining and natural resources projects. As our work becomes increasingly data-driven, we are developing modern web applications that improve QA/QC, streamline data workflows, and enable collaboration across technical teams and project locations. You’ll work closely with engineers, hydrogeologists, geologists, and project managers to understand real-world challenges, develop practical software solutions, and gain experience applying modern web development to complex technical projects.
Why Join Equilibrium?
Global reach. Specialist expertise. Real influence.
Equilibrium brings together the global reach and expertise of an established consultancy with the autonomy and agility of a specialist firm.
Here, you’ll work closely with experienced leaders, have a genuine voice in the business and see the impact of your work firsthand. As we grow, you’ll have the opportunity to take ownership, deepen your expertise and play a meaningful role in shaping what comes next.
We want our people to grow with the business, build meaningful relationships and make a lasting contribution - not simply be part of the team, but help build the future of Equilibrium.
The Role:
As a Junior Full-Stack Developer (Co-op), you’ll contribute to the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of web applications that support Equilibrium’s data-focused mining and engineering projects.
You’ll work across the frontend and backend, using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Express.js, and MongoDB to build scalable applications and data-driven workflows. This role will provide hands-on experience across the full software development lifecycle, including feature development, API and database development, testing, code reviews, deployment support, and collaboration with multidisciplinary technical teams.
You will:
- Frontend Development: Develop and maintain responsive web applications using React and TypeScript/JavaScript.
- Backend Development: Develop backend services and application logic using Node.js and Express.js.
- API & Data: Build and maintain RESTful APIs and work with MongoDB to support reliable, efficient data workflows.
- Feature Development: Collaborate with engineers and project managers to define, develop, test, and deliver features from concept through implementation.
- Performance & Reliability: Help ensure applications are responsive, performant, reliable, and compatible across modern browsers and devices.
- Code Quality & Testing: Write clean, maintainable, testable, and well-documented code and contribute to testing, code reviews, and troubleshooting.
- Collaboration & Problem Solving: Work with technical and project teams to understand challenges, investigate issues, and develop practical solutions.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to improving development workflows, tools, architecture, and engineering practices.
What We’re Looking For:
- Enrolled in the BCIT Computing Co-op Program and eligible for a co-op work term.
- Experience building web applications using React and JavaScript/TypeScript through coursework, personal projects, or previous work experience.
- Familiarity with full-stack web development concepts and an interest in developing across both frontend and backend applications.
- Familiarity with authentication, authorization, data validation, and basic application security.
- Experience using Git and collaborative version control workflows, including branches and pull requests.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn new technologies and work through technical challenges with guidance when needed.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and reliable code.
- Ability to manage time effectively, take initiative, and contribute positively within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
- An interest in applying software development to real-world, data-driven technical challenges is an asset.
Your Technology Stack:
- Frontend: React, TypeScript and/or JavaScript, with a focus on building responsive and scalable web applications. Familiarity with Tailwind CSS is an asset.
- Backend: Node.js, Express.js, and MongoDB, including RESTful API development and backend application logic.
- Development & Collaboration: Git, GitHub and/or GitLab, and collaborative development workflows.
- DevOps & Deployment: Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, or cloud-based deployment is an asset.
