Managing Consultant, Environmental & EHS

Belgium | SSO CPD

The opportunity

ERM is looking for a Managing Consultant to join our Environmental & EHS consulting team in Belgium.

In this role, you will work with a diverse range of industrial and corporate clients, helping them navigate environmental and EHS challenges, translate regulatory requirements into practical solutions, and manage environmental and EHS risks throughout their operations.

You will become part of a dynamic, collaborative and supportive team where people enjoy working together and sharing their expertise. We value team players who are curious, open and willing to learn from others, while bringing their own experience and perspective. You will have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues with different areas of expertise, take on increasing responsibility, and grow your technical, consulting and client-facing skills.

We are particularly interested in people with experience in environmental legislation, permitting, environmental impact assessment or EHS, but we don't expect you to be an expert in everything. You may bring experience from environmental consulting, industry, engineering, safety, regulatory compliance or another related field.

What matters most is that you have a solid technical foundation, enjoy working with clients and colleagues, and are motivated to continue learning and developing.

The role can be based in either our Antwerp or Brussels office where we have a hybrid working policy and flexible working hours.

What you'll do

Depending on your background and experience, you will:

• Deliver environmental, permitting, impact assessment and/or EHS projects for clients.
• Advise clients on environmental and EHS legislation and compliance.
• Support environmental permitting projects in Flanders, including the preparation and coordination of permit applications.
• Contribute to environmental impact assessments (m.e.r./MER) and collaborate with technical specialists where relevant.
• Help clients identify, understand and manage environmental and EHS risks associated with their operations and business activities.
• Carry out client and site-based assessments and translate findings into practical recommendations and solutions.
• Prepare clear, high-quality reports, documentation and client deliverables.
• Manage your own project activities and progressively take ownership of larger and more complex assignments.
• Build trusted relationships with clients and collaborate with colleagues and specialists across ERM.
• Support and share knowledge with more junior colleagues.

What we're looking for

You will ideally bring:

• A degree in environmental science, engineering, EHS, safety or another relevant technical discipline.
• Relevant professional experience in environmental, EHS or related consulting, industry, engineering or a regulatory environment.
• Familiarity with Belgian/Flemish environmental legislation, environmental permitting, impact assessment, environmental compliance and/or EHS would be highly valued.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with the ability to produce clear and high-quality written work.
• A practical, pragmatic and solution-oriented approach to client challenges.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills and the confidence to work directly with clients.
• The ability to work independently while enjoying being part of a collaborative team.
• Curiosity and motivation to continue developing your technical and consulting expertise.
• Fluency in Dutch and good professional English. French is an advantage.

You do not need to tick every box. If you bring relevant experience in environmental, safety or EHS topics, enjoy working with clients and colleagues, and are motivated to broaden your expertise, we encourage you to apply.

Grow with us

This role offers the opportunity to combine your technical expertise with increasing responsibility for projects and client relationships.

You will be part of a team that believes in working together, sharing knowledge and supporting each other's development. Through collaboration with colleagues in Belgium and specialists across ERM's wider network, you will have opportunities to broaden your expertise, explore new areas and progressively develop towards more senior consulting responsibilities.
