Job Description
Summary: embecta is a global diabetes care company that is leveraging its 100-year legacy in insulin delivery to empower people with diabetes to live their best life through innovative solutions. The Tech 2 Toolroom Internship involves conducting fabrication and repair of metal and plastic parts, maintaining quality of precision tools, and training new employees in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct and carry through to completion the fabrication and repair of all types of metal and plastic parts, tools and machines according to instruction, blueprint, work orders and established procedure guidelines
- Reshape and refinish worn tools and fixtures
- Maintain good quality of all precision tools and equipment
- Must be proficient on manual type machining and material preparation equipment such as mills, lathes, band saws, shears, ID/OD and surface grinders, etc
- Must have a working understanding of reading blueprints, fundamentals of measuring equipment and tooling, interpretation of geometric tolerances and the basics of metallurgy science
- Must demonstrate the desire and capability to grasp the concepts of completely setting up and operating fully automated CNC equipment such as CNC Mill, CNC Lathe, CNC Grinders, EDM equipment, etc
- Must demonstrate the desire and capability to use CAD files to create CAM programs for use with all types of CNC equipment
- Design and build fixtures to support multi-part machining operations
- Take a leadership role in the training of new employees and the day-to-day activities of the production area of the shop
- Miscellaneous clean-up of the area
- Performs other duties as assigned by Shift Leader and required to support the needs of the business
- Must maintain regular, punctual attendance
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED
- Must be proficient on manual type machining and material preparation equipment such as mills, lathes, band saws, shears, ID/OD and surface grinders, etc
- Must have a working understanding of reading blueprints, fundamentals of measuring equipment and tooling, interpretation of geometric tolerances and the basics of metallurgy science
- Must demonstrate the desire and capability to grasp the concepts of completely setting up and operating fully automated CNC equipment such as CNC Mill, CNC Lathe, CNC Grinders, EDM equipment, etc
- Must demonstrate the desire and capability to use CAD files to create CAM programs for use with all types of CNC equipment

- Must maintain regular, punctual attendance
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
- Basic computer keyboard & navigational skills including Microsoft Office
- Competency in all basic math
- Working knowledge of higher math (including trigonometry, algebra and geometry)
- Knowledge of decimal system
- Must be able to interpret readings from indicators, micrometers and assorted gauges
- Must be able to read blueprints, understand geometric tolerances, and fabricate components to print specifications/dimensions
- Possess basic skills on lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill press and have ability to do sheet metal work and welding
- Must possess the basic skills in precision measurement
- Must have knowledge of inventory control practices: Quoting project and jobs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Mold Making or Tool & Die preferred
- Knowledge and experience with CAD system
- Knowledge and experience with plastics and/or injection molds
- Knowledge and experience with assembly equipment
- Knowledge of CNC machine tools
- Knowledge of CAM software
- Project management
