Job Description
Job Title: Data Visualization Analyst
Department: EMS Business Intelligence
Location: Remote (Lenexa, KS)
Reports to: Senior Director of Analytics and BI
(Salary range: $75,000 - $85,000/annually)
Who You Are
Step into a role designed for a forward-thinking visual strategist. The Data Visualization Analyst sits at the dynamic intersection of advanced business intelligence, intuitive user experience, and next-generation AI analytics. As higher education marketing rapidly shifts toward AI-driven search discovery and real-time student decision-making, we are expanding our analytical ecosystem to match that scale. Joining the EMS Business Intelligence team means accelerating how our organization and enterprise partners interpret, interact with, and execute complex data to drive enrollment growth.
This is not a traditional reporting role focused on assembling static spreadsheets. Instead, it is a collaborative analytics position dedicated to designing dynamic, AI-assisted visual narratives. Operating as a crucial link between complex cloud architecture and executive strategy, this role helps stakeholders move beyond asking what happened to understand why it happened, what will happen next, and which strategic actions to take. A successful candidate will combine technical curiosity, user-centric design principles, and business acumen to transform raw performance metrics into clear, actionable insights.
Here are the abilities that we seek out:
- Strategic Visualization & UX Architecture: Design, build, and elevate interactive Tableau and Power BI dashboards that translate complex performance metrics into intuitive, scalable analytics grounded in UX best practices.
- KPI Standardization: Establish enterprise-wide reporting methodologies, custom calculations, drill paths, and standardized KPI frameworks that transition teams away from static outputs toward near-real-time analytics.
- Advanced Data Analysis: Query, aggregate, and analyze multi-source datasets using advanced SQL, conducting exploratory deep dives to uncover conversion anomalies, trend patterns, and revenue opportunities.
- Diagnostic Storytelling: Move beyond descriptive metrics by delivering clear interpretations, predictive hypotheses, and strategic recommendations to help cross-functional leaders answer critical business questions.
- AI-Enabled Workflow Acceleration: Integrate generative AI and agentic analytics into daily BI workflows to streamline SQL development, dataset exploration, QA, and automated insight generation.
- Next-Gen BI Integration: Evaluate and embed natural-language querying, automated anomaly detection, and AI-driven narratives into production tools while maintaining strict human-in-the-loop validation.
- Data Governance & Quality Assurance: Enforce strict data governance, privacy, and security standards through end-to-end source-to-dashboard validation, business logic audits, and root-cause anomaly investigations.
- Documentation & Scalability: Author SOPs, data dictionaries, and reusable design templates to maintain consistency and expand product scalability across the BI ecosystem.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the core analytical liaison between BI, Data Engineering, Account Management, and higher education institution partners, ensuring technical and strategic alignment,
- Executive Communication: Translate complex statistical outputs and analytical methodologies into clear, compelling business narratives for non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Analytics Enablement & Training: Elevate data literacy across internal teams and client organizations through dedicated training sessions, self-service user guides, and visualization best practices.
