Job Description
Summary: Morgan Stanley is a leading global financial services firm providing investment banking, securities, investment management, and wealth management services. They are seeking an Associate-level Data Science Engineer to support Project Cortex, focusing on building metadata and lineage platforms for Finance systems.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in building metadata ingestion pipelines to capture feed, dataset, and attribute-level lineage
- Support development of lineage models representing data flow across Finance pipelines and reports
- Write and maintain Python and SQL code for metadata extraction, transformation, and validation
- Analyze metadata and reporting attributes to identify relationships and dependencies
- Contribute to building and maintaining structured metadata tables
- Support testing, validation, and documentation of lineage outputs
- Collaborate with global teams using an agile development process
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and code reviews
Required Qualifications:
- Strong foundation in Python and SQL
- Understanding of data structures, relational data models, and normalization
- Exposure to data engineering or analytics pipelines
- Ability to analyze structured datasets and derive relationships
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to learn enterprise-scale data platforms and Finance systems
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Master's degree in Data Science, Applied Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or Bachelor's degree with strong relevant coursework)
- Strong academic performance and hands-on project experience
- Prior internship or research experience in data science or data engineering is a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to metadata, lineage, or data governance concepts
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms or distributed data processing
- Experience with machine learning or statistical modeling from academic projects
- Interest in Finance or reporting data domains
