Indirect Tax Analyst at DuraServ in Coppell, TX

WHERE DETAILS MAKE A MISSION-CRITICAL IMPACT.
TAX COMPLIANCE DOESN'T FORGIVE SMALL MISTAKES.
That's exactly why your precision matters.
DuraServ is looking for an Indirect Tax Analyst who brings multi-jurisdictional tax knowledge, Avalara proficiency, and the analytical discipline to keep a national organization compliant across sales tax, use tax, and property tax obligations.

Tax Analyst (Indirect) | Corporate Finance | Compliance. Accuracy. Integrity.
DuraServ Corporate | Office-Based Role | No Travel Required | Reports to Tax Director
Indirect Tax Is Where Regulatory Risk Lives. You're the One Who Manages It.
DuraServ operates across nine U.S. and Canadian regions — transacting across dozens of states, managing thousands of customer and vendor relationships, and navigating a multi-jurisdictional tax landscape that changes constantly. The Tax Analyst (Indirect) is the person who keeps all of that aligned with regulatory requirements: collecting and reconciling sales tax, use tax, and property tax data; maintaining exemption certificates; administering Avalara; supporting audits; and researching the law changes that affect how the company operates.
This role reports directly to the Tax Director and works closely with accounts payable, billing, and external auditors. The work is precise by nature — and the consequences of imprecision are regulatory. You're not processing transactions. You're maintaining the compliance infrastructure that protects the organization.
If indirect tax is your specialty and accuracy is your standard — this role was built for you.
What You'll Own
The Compliance
Collect, reconcile, and analyze sales tax, use tax, property tax, and other tax data — ensuring accuracy in reporting and compliance submissions across multiple jurisdictions
Prepare and review tax journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting — your entries are correct before they post
Conduct tax research to stay current with evolving federal, state, and local tax laws and assess their impact on company operations — you flag the changes before they become compliance gaps
The Documentation & Systems
Review, validate, and maintain customer exemption certificates and tax credit documentation to support proper tax treatment — nothing is accepted without verification
Administer and maintain Avalara tax automation software — ensuring proper system configuration, accurate tax calculation, and reliable integration with ERP systems
Partner with accounts payable and billing teams to ensure proper application of tax payments and accurate sales and use tax accruals
The Audit Support
Assist in gathering and preparing documentation for tax audits — working closely with internal teams and external auditors to ensure every record is complete, organized, and defensible
Maintain compliance standards across all tax processes with commitment to confidentiality and ethical judgment — your work represents the organization to regulators

Who You Are
You don't estimate tax obligations. You calculate them. And when the regulation changes, you know about it before it affects a filing.
Indirect tax fluent — strong working knowledge of sales and use tax regulations, property tax processes, and multi-jurisdictional tax rules; you've lived in this compliance environment before
Avalara proficient — you've administered sales tax automation software, understand how system configuration drives calculation accuracy, and know how to troubleshoot when the output doesn't match the expectation
Analytically precise — you reconcile tax data, catch discrepancies at the source, and maintain records that hold up to external scrutiny
A clear communicator — you can explain complex indirect tax concepts to non-tax professionals in accounts payable, billing, and operations without losing accuracy in the translation
Deadline-disciplined — multi-jurisdictional compliance means multiple filing deadlines across multiple state and local authorities; you manage them without missing one
Ethically grounded — tax compliance requires confidentiality, integrity, and judgment; you bring all three without being asked

What We're Looking For
Required
2+ years of experience in indirect tax, with demonstrated exposure to sales tax, use tax, and multi-jurisdictional compliance
Experience with sales tax automation software — Avalara preferred; equivalent platform experience considered
Working knowledge of ERP systems as they relate to tax data, accruals, and reporting
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel for data analysis and reconciliation
Preferred
CPA license highly preferred — demonstrates commitment to the profession and depth of technical knowledge
High School diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred
Experience supporting tax audits and preparing audit-ready documentation for external review
Background working cross-functionally with accounts payable and billing teams on tax accruals and payments

What's in It for You
Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
Full benefits package: medical, dental, vision, and 401K with company match
Company-provided life insurance, short-term and long-term disability
Direct reporting line to the Tax Director — your work has immediate visibility and executive context
A multi-jurisdictional tax environment that keeps the work substantive — you're not processing one state's returns
Stable, office-based role at DuraServ Corporate with no travel requirement
A growing national organization where strong tax compliance infrastructure is recognized as a strategic asset

A Note to the Right Candidate.
If you've been in an indirect tax role where the jurisdiction count was high, the exemption certificate backlog was real, and the audit notice was the thing that kept the calendar organized — you understand exactly what this job demands.
DuraServ's Tax Analyst (Indirect) operates inside a national company with a multi-state transaction footprint. The compliance is real, the research is ongoing, and the accuracy requirement doesn't move. We hire people who take that seriously.
