A tractor trailer and a pickup meet at a rural intersection a little after dusk. Nobody dies at the scene. Eighteen months later the file lands with a crash animation the plaintiff's reconstructionist has already played to a mediator, a life care plan running to eight figures, and an economist who's very sure what the driver would have earned until the age of seventy, and your job would be to take it apart one expert at a time.

This team defends the trucking, catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases, the ones with seven figure exposure and a knot of law somewhere in the middle of the facts. You'd take and defend the depositions, run discovery out and in, cover hearings on your own and keep the client in the picture as the case turns. When a file goes to mediation, arbitration or trial, associates go with it and do some of the talking.

The people you'd be cross examining, more or less in the order they turn up:

• The accident reconstructionist, and their animation
• A biomechanical engineer
• The treating doctors, and then the retained ones
• The life care planner
• The economist, last, with the biggest number

Hybrid, with two office days a week at whichever of their California offices is closest and the other three at home. The pay is $150,000 to $185,000 plus bonus, with medical, dental, vision and a 401k.
