Summary: Delta Dental of Michigan is one of the largest dental plan administrators in the country, dedicated to improving oral health through benefit plans and community support. They are seeking an Application Development Intern who will work on enterprise business application platforms, build AI proof-of-concepts, and gain experience in modern system architecture while applying their Computer Science knowledge to real-world problems. Responsibilities: - Work on cutting-edge, large scale, enterprise business application platforms - Build AI proof-of-concepts, explore new AI technologies, work well in a dynamic research setting, and possess strong Python skills - Contribute to our next-generation platform leveraging browser-based clients written in Angular, backed by Java based REST services, and highly scalable and complex backend systems, conforming to strict security standards - Gain first-hand experience on modern system architecture, such as Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Event-Driven Architecture (EDA), Web frameworks, and enabling technology such as REST, JSON, Kafka, containerization, RPA, content management systems etc - Apply the fundamentals from Computer Science/Engineering curriculum onto real-world problems - Communicate your work to other teams and develop your skills explaining technical subjects to a business audience - Perform other related assigned duties as necessary to complete the Primary Job Responsibilities as described above Required Qualifications: - Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program - Completed at least one course or equivalent experience with programming in Java, Python, C++, or other similar languages - Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical fields - Strong Python skills - Experience programming in at least one of the mainstream languages such as Java, Python, C++, etc - Experience or knowledge in modern web application development languages and frameworks such as HTML/CSS, Angular/React etc - Experience with OpenAI, LLM frameworks - Solid skills in data structure and algorithms design/analysis - Good understanding of software architecture, Object-Oriented (OO) analysis/design, and commonly used design patterns such as factory, composite, etc - Self-motivated and able to contribute in a team setting - Excel at problem solving, with strong analytical and critical thinking skills - Ability to communicate work to other teams and explain technical subjects to a business audience Required Skills: Python, Java, C++, Modern web application development, HTML, CSS, Angular, React, OpenAI, Large Language Model frameworks, Data structures, Algorithms, Software architecture, Object-Oriented analysis, Design patterns, Analytical thinking
