Job Description
Summary: CycloKinetics is advancing the next generation of high-performance propellants for aerospace and defense. They are seeking a Computer Science Intern to support the development and deployment of internal tools and AI that enhance operational efficiency, working closely with engineers to build, test, and deploy practical solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Strong commitment to safety is required
- Perform job duties in a safety-regulated environment where chemicals are used
- Support development of internal tools for engineering, operations, and business workflows
- Work with structured and unstructured data to enable AI-driven insights and automation
- Help integrate internal tools with existing systems (databases, file systems, internal software)
- Develop scripts, utilities, or small applications to support engineering and operational needs
- Participate in testing and validation of AI outputs and workflows
- Document systems, tools, and processes for internal use
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify high-impact opportunities
- Maintain awareness of emerging AI tools and recommend practical applications
- Participate in meetings and planning sessions, providing work updates or summaries as requested
- Work is performed on-site at your designated work location
- Maintain accurate and complete records, test results, and data, in accordance with company guidelines on documentation, storage, and control
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager/Supervisor or designated leadership
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Demonstrated interest or experience in AI / machine learning / LLMs
- Familiarity with Python or similar scripting languages
- Interest in locally hosted AI environments
- Basic understanding of data structures, APIs, and system integration concepts
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of small projects
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills and willingness to work with cross-functional teams
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

- Demonstrated proficiency in common computer tools and web-based applications

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with LLM tools, embeddings, or retrieval systems
- Familiarity with running AI models locally (GPU/CPU environments, containers, etc.)
- Experience with databases (SQL or NoSQL)
- Exposure to industrial, manufacturing, or engineering environments
- Experience with scripting, automation, or internal tool development
