Clinical Informatics Intern at Cone Health in Greensboro, NC

Summary: Cone Health is seeking a Clinical Informatics Intern to support the coordination, integration, and analysis of clinical processes using clinical information technology. The intern will collaborate with clinical, operational, and IT teams to enhance patient care and operational effectiveness. Responsibilities: - Support informatics initiatives within a designated department or service line - Assist with adoption and optimization of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems - Participate in workflow analysis, process mapping, and documentation of clinical requirements - Assist in translating clinical needs into functional specifications for IT teams - Observe and contribute to clinical and operational improvement meetings and governance processes - Support safety initiatives and learn risk-mitigation practices within healthcare technology systems - Assist in maintaining knowledge base articles, training materials, and procedural documentation - Shadow informatics professionals serving as liaisons between clinicians and information systems leadership - Contribute to change management efforts and assist with educational content development and training support - Participate in quality improvement or IT methodology initiatives (e.g., Agile, LEAN) - Perform other learning-related duties and special projects as assigned Required Qualifications: - Must be in process of a college-level degree in a related field and a student in good standing - Applicants must be at least the age of 16 to be employed as Cone Health High School-level interns (work-authorization required) - Support informatics initiatives within a designated department or service line - Assist with adoption and optimization of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems - Participate in workflow analysis, process mapping, and documentation of clinical requirements - Assist in translating clinical needs into functional specifications for IT teams - Observe and contribute to clinical and operational improvement meetings and governance processes - Support safety initiatives and learn risk-mitigation practices within healthcare technology systems - Assist in maintaining knowledge base articles, training materials, and procedural documentation - Shadow informatics professionals serving as liaisons between clinicians and information systems leadership - Contribute to change management efforts and assist with educational content development and training support - Participate in quality improvement or IT methodology initiatives (e.g., Agile, LEAN) - Perform other learning-related duties and special projects as assigned Preferred Qualifications: - Master's level students preferred, particularly those pursuing degrees in: Healthcare Administration, Health Informatics, Public Health, Nursing, Healthcare Management, Business Administration (MBA with healthcare focus), Information Systems or related technical fields - Undergraduate students may be considered if they are classified as Junior or Senior - Majors may include healthcare professions, technical degrees, business, information systems, or related disciplines - Past or current clinical experience is highly desirable - Academic, practicum, research, or project experience involving healthcare systems, EMRs, data analysis, or workflow improvement - Foundational awareness of healthcare regulations such as HIPAA and patient privacy standards - Exposure to quality improvement or project management methodologies (Agile, LEAN, ITIL) through coursework or projects - No prior full-time professional experience required - Foundational understanding of healthcare operations and clinical workflows - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Effective written and verbal communication skills - Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams - Organizational and time management skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar productivity tools - Interest in healthcare IT systems, data systems, and informatics practices Required Skills: Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Healthcare Informatics, Data Analysis Important Skills: Healthcare Operations, Quality Improvement, Project Management Nice-to-Have Skills: Analytical Skills, Microsoft Office, Interest in Healthcare IT, Communication Skills, Team Collaboration, Organizational Skills Benefits: Campus Greensboro’s Summer Fellows Program
