2. Job Purpose
To manage and oversee the Group's tax affairs, ensuring full compliance with applicable Tanzanian tax laws and regulations while minimising tax risks and identifying legitimate tax planning opportunities.
The Tax Manager will provide tax advisory support to company and its subsidiaries, oversee tax compliance, manage tax audits and assessments, monitor tax exposures, and ensure appropriate tax governance across the Group.
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Tax Compliance
•Oversee timely and accurate preparation and submission of all statutory tax returns and declarations.
•Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws, regulations and Tanzania Revenue Authority requirements.
•Monitor tax payment obligations and ensure taxes are settled within statutory deadlines.
•Review VAT, corporate income tax, withholding tax, PAYE, SDL, excise duty and other applicable tax obligations.
•Ensure appropriate tax documentation and records are maintained.
B. Tax Planning and Advisory
•Provide tax advice to Management and Group companies on business transactions and proposed initiatives.
•Identify legitimate tax planning and tax efficiency opportunities.
•Advise on the tax implications of investments, acquisitions, disposals, contracts and restructuring.
•Review major commercial agreements from a tax perspective.
•Advise business units on tax-efficient and compliant transaction structures.
C. Tax Audits and Assessments
•Coordinate and manage tax audits conducted by the Tanzania Revenue Authority and other relevant authorities.
•Review tax audit findings and proposed assessments.
•Prepare responses to tax queries, assessments and notices.
•Coordinate objections, appeals and other tax dispute-resolution processes.
•Maintain proper records of tax audits, disputes and outstanding exposures.
D. Tax Risk Management
•Identify and assess tax risks across Group companies.
•Develop and maintain a Group tax risk register.
•Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the Group.
•Ensure tax risks are communicated to Management in a timely manner.
•Recommend corrective measures where tax compliance weaknesses are identified.
E. Transfer Pricing and Related-Party Transactions
•Oversee compliance with applicable transfer-pricing requirements.
•Review related-party transactions and ensure appropriate documentation.
•Coordinate preparation and maintenance of transfer-pricing documentation.
•Monitor intercompany transactions for tax implications.
•Work with external tax advisers where specialist transfer-pricing support is required.
F. Tax Accounting and Reporting
•Review current and deferred tax calculations where applicable.
•Ensure appropriate tax provisions and tax balances are reflected in financial statements.
•Reconcile tax accounts and investigate outstanding balances.
•Provide tax information required for monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
•Support external and internal audit processes relating to taxation.
G. Tax Governance and Controls
•Develop, implement and maintain Group tax policies and procedures.
•Establish appropriate tax controls across subsidiaries and business units.
•Review tax processes periodically to identify weaknesses and improvement opportunities.
•Promote consistent tax practices across companies.
•Maintain a central tax compliance calendar.
H. Stakeholder Management
•Liaise with TRA and other regulatory authorities on tax matters.
•Manage relationships with external tax consultants, auditors and legal advisers.
•Provide tax training and guidance to Finance and relevant operational teams.
•Support subsidiaries in resolving complex tax matters.
•Keep Management informed of significant tax developments and exposures.

•Effective management and resolution of tax audits and disputes.
•Accuracy of tax provisions and reconciliations.

•Timely communication of changes in tax legislation.
5. Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Commerce or related field.
•CA, ACCA, CIMA, CTA or equivalent professional qualification.
•Registered tax practitioner or relevant tax certification will be an advantage.
Experience:
•At least 710 years' experience in taxation, with significant experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
•Strong knowledge of Tanzanian tax laws and TRA procedures.
•Experience managing tax matters for a Group of companies is highly desirable.
•Experience in mining, construction, energy, logistics or other capital-intensive industries will be an advantage.
•Experience with tax audits, objections and appeals is highly desirable.
