Job Description
Summary: Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy. They are looking for a talented Manufacturing Engineering Intern to join their team, where interns are placed into meaningful and challenging roles.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct time-and-motion studies to develop a Value Stream Map that pinpoints bottlenecks and flow inefficiencies
- Design and prototype fixtures to support production processes
- Audit and update work instructions, prioritizing the improvement of existing SOPs and the development of new
- Execute Lean Manufacturing projects, such as 5S or Kaizen events, to reduce waste and optimize shop floor organization
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing an engineering degree with focus in the fields of Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace
- CAD design experience
- Familiarity with hand tools (machine shop experience is a plus)
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience through academic research, project teams, machine shops, hackathons, or industry internships
- Demonstration of exceptional results through a range of different pursuits
- High self-motivation and drive to execute quickly with excellent troubleshooting/problem-solving skills
- Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
- Perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
- Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
Required Skills: Engineering degree, CAD design, Manufacturing experience
