Intern, Diamond Fabrication at Coherent Corp. in Saxonburg, PA

Summary: Coherent Corp. is a global leader in lasers, engineered materials, and networking components. They are seeking a motivated Diamond Fabrication Intern to gain hands-on experience in production, operations, and engineering, supporting the team in making new products and improving current processes. Responsibilities: - Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude to build and assemble equipment, as well as performing process testing with fabrication equipment - Use of characterization equipment and analysis to baseline tools - Assist with data collection and development in the production environment - Work on assigned R&D projects - Assist engineering staff with daily projects and duties - Learn Diamond Fabrication machine operation and provide support where necessary - Support department 5S initiatives - Present on projects while speaking about any research or ideas to make improvements Required Qualifications: - Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude to build and assemble equipment, as well as performing process testing with fabrication equipment - Use of characterization equipment and analysis to baseline tools - Assist with data collection and development in the production environment - Work on assigned R&D projects - Assist engineering staff with daily projects and duties - Learn Diamond Fabrication machine operation and provide support where necessary - Support department 5S initiatives - Present on projects while speaking about any research or ideas to make improvements - Education Level Required: Bachelor's / Master's / PhD - Completed a minimum of 2 years of bachelor's degree by start of internship - Majors: Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science - Open to currently enrolled students or those who have graduated within one year of the internship start date - Excellent written and verbal communication - Team-oriented but able to work independently when needed - Adaptable and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment - Attention to detail and time management - Internship Duration: 10 – 14 weeks - Regular use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary - Operation of polishing and/or characterization equipment - Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or in meetings - Use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents - Occasional lifting of objects or materials up to 20 pounds for administrative tasks - Ability to communicate verbally and in writing - All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp.
