Job Description
Summary: Coherent Corp. is a global leader in lasers and engineered materials, and they are seeking a motivated Diamond Fabrication Intern for Summer 2026. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in production and engineering while contributing to meaningful projects that support team objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude to build and assemble equipment, as well as performing process testing with fabrication equipment
- Use of characterization equipment and analysis to baseline tools
- Assist with data collection and development in the production environment
- Work on assigned R&D projects
- Assist engineering staff with daily projects and duties
- Learn Diamond Fabrication machine operation and provide support where necessary
- Support department 5S initiatives
- Present on projects while speaking about any research or ideas to make improvements
Required Qualifications:
- Completed a minimum of 2 years of bachelor's degree by start of internship
- Majors: Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Team-oriented but able to work independently when needed
- Adaptable and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and time management
- Internship Duration: 10 – 14 weeks
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant coursework or extracurricular experience in field or tools is a plus
- Programming and/or JMP experience is a plus
- Knowledge of characterization equipment is a plus
